FOCAS Philosophy
FOCAS is a volunteer, non-profit organization formed to help the lost and abandoned dogs and cats in the three San Diego Department of Animals Services shelters. FOCAS is dedicated to giving second chances to animals that otherwise may have no hope at all. This is reflected in the group's commitment to helping the animals that need it most.Whether it be an illness that needs medication, a broken leg that needs time to heal or a puppy, kitten or older pet that will not thrive in the shelter environment, FOCAS uses its energy and resources to help the "diamonds in the rough" that need a little extra TLC before they can find their forever home. We do not exit pets that will otherwise find a home quickly through the DAS adoption services, but instead focus on helping animals with friendly dispositions and treatable or manageable medical or other issues.
The result? Wonderful, happy and now healthy cats and dogs that may have had a rough start in life, but are now on their way to a better life.
FOCAS is committed to making a match that is right for these pets and for the public. Therefore, the group does not adopt on a first come, first serve basis but instead, takes the time to ensure that the home we place a pet in is one in which they and their new owners will live happily and healthily.
